While I am sure everyone has heard this over and over, I will say it again: backups are critical. They can save the day on a morning when “Murphy’s Law” decides to bang its gavel on some part of your infrastructure that will have everyone contacting you to fix it…immediately. A thorough and recent backup can reduce the down time considerably and get your business back to normalcy. I would always recommend everyone know the steps to properly back up every piece of equipment for which one is responsible. Automated backups wherever possible should be set and maintained.
Today I will be sharing some instructions on backing up your Avaya Communication Manager translations. These instructions should work for systems as far back as 3.2 up to 7. Some screens will look different but navigation to them is similar. These shots are from a R7 system. It is a relatively easy process for a one- time backup or setting up scheduled backups.
Setting up scheduled backups:
- Access the SMI/GUI of your Communication Manager: httpsss://<ipaddofCM>
- Select “Server” from the Administration drop down
- In the next screen, in the left most column, select “Schedule Backup” in the Data/Backup Restore section
Check Avaya Call Processing Translations (note: you can also backup security files and operating system files)
Next Select FTP, or SFTP from the drop down and populate the necessary information. (host name is the IP or FQDN of your FTP server)
Select what days you want this to run and at what time
Then select add new schedule and you’re set
Your new schedule will appear on the screen.
